A Back-lit display comprises a light source (often LED) positioned in the back of a liquid-crystal or other electronic display. Used in our range of Sony WALKMAN® models it increases readability and visibility, especially when the screen is being viewed in bright daylight. Broadband eBook (BBeB) is a format for electronic books developed by Sony. Many websites offer free “out of copyright” ebooks in this Reader-compatible format, although new titles in BBeB are generally only available to US consumers via US websites. The BBeB specification was developed by Sony to shrink the text of large books (over 250 pages) into a small file size, and to incorporate Open MG copy protection to prevent unlimited content copying. The new, open EPUB file format features many of the same advantages that BBeB offers to book lovers.
Bezels are interchangeable coloured frames that let you change the look of your BRAVIA TV to match it with any room décor. Many BRAVIA TV models come with coloured bezels as standard, along with matching stands. Certain models allow you to choose from a selection of optional colours and designs.
Bi-amplification is the connection system between a loudspeaker and an amplifier system
whereby two amplifiers are used to drive each speaker. To bi-amplify a pair of stereo speakers
you require two stereo amplifiers or four monoblocs. Usually, one amplifier will drive the
bass section of the speaker and the other amplifier will drive the mid / high frequency section.
This minimises distortion levels and greatly improves sound quality. For receivers with this
capability it means any unused amplifiers can be switched to take advantage of this feature.
All Sony stereo camcorders are equipped with a switch to select the channel used for playback of pre-recorded bilingual software.
Bionz image processor
The high-speed Bionz image processing engine allows the user to capture pictures at lightning speed. The engine offers high-speed burst shooting at up to three frames per second continuously, at 10.2-megapixels and the finest JPEG compression.
The smallest piece of data that a computer can process. It can only be in one of two states 0 or 1 (also known as "on“ or "off“).
Colours appear more brilliant if viewed against a black background. Sony Black Trinitron® picture tubes have a special dark tint that makes colours more intense and improves contrast.
When using the blank skip function, the tape is fast-forwarded to the next track if there is a blank space longer than 12 seconds.
Block Noise Reduction
MPEG digital video compression works by compressing square areas of pixels. Under some conditions, an artefact called block noise can occur in the picture. Block Noise Reduction processes the noise blocks so that they become invisible.
Head units can be supplied with a display colour matching the blue illumination found in certain car instrument panels.
Conventional optical technologies such as CD, DVD and magneto-optical (MO) drives write data using red lasers. But makers of storage systems and recording media have developed ways to read and write using more efficient blue lasers. Blue lasers operate at shorter optical wavelengths, therefore they can write more data in the same space and write and read data faster than devices that use red lasers. Blu-ray Disc™ media are based on the blue-laser technology.

The Blu-ray Disc™ is a high-density optical disc format designed for storage of high-definition video and data.
The name of the next-generation optical disc format. Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) offers more than five times the capacity of traditional DVDs. It means users can enjoy an immersive High Definition experience, with movies and music faithfully delivered in all their original glory. BMC (bulk moulding compound) is a mixture of marble, glass fibre and epoxy resin. This material is very strong and is used in areas where vibration is unacceptable, particularly in DVD drives.
(Bitmap) An uncompressed, graphic format that maps an image pixel, bit by bit.
This function allows users to bookmark their favourite CD or MiniDisc tracks while listening to their music. Afterwards, the bookmarked tracks can be played back automatically.

(Best Tuning Memory) Automatically selects and stores the stations with the strongest signals on the preset buttons in order of frequency. By engaging AF on RDS-equipped sets, this function will arrange the strongest signals in ascending order according to Programme Identification codes.
Burst mode temporarily speeds up data transmission between shots by using a buffer memory. Consecutive images can be stored in rapid succession, without needing to wait for the camera to record each individual image. This is ideal for sports, action and wildlife photography, as well as for capturing once-in-a-lifetime shots.
